How the counting works
Whole calendar days
The count is the number of days from one date to the other — midnights crossed, not hours elapsed. Clock changes and time zones never move the number.
Whether the last day counts
Monday to Friday is four days apart, but five days of work. Turn on Count the last day too when both ends are days you are counting — leave, a hire period, a stay.
Business days
The business day figure is the same span with Saturdays and Sundays removed, so it assumes a Monday to Friday working week. Public holidays are left in, because they differ from one country to the next.
Questions
Do leap years get counted?
Yes, automatically. Every date is treated as a real calendar date, so 2024 contributes 366 days and 2023 contributes 365. You never need to adjust for one.
Does daylight saving change the answer?
No. The count is calendar-based: it counts the midnights crossed, not the hours elapsed. A span across a clock change is still a whole number of days.
How are months counted?
As real calendar months, not blocks of 30 days. That is why one month after 31 January is 29 February in a leap year, and why the years-and-months reading always adds back up to the exact day count.
Which days count as business days?
Monday to Friday. The count removes Saturdays and Sundays only. If your working week runs Sunday to Thursday, as it does across much of the Middle East and North Africa, or ends on a Saturday, this figure will not match yours.
Are public holidays taken off the business day count?
No. The business day figure removes Saturdays and Sundays only, because public holidays differ by country and often by region. Subtract your own.
Can I share or bookmark a result?
Yes. The address bar updates with both dates as you change them, so copying the link gives someone the same answer.
